A NOTE FROM OUR ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

Hello Tarver-Rendon Family,
I'm Amanda McCarther, and I'm excited to serve as your assistant principal this school year! The 19-20 school year marks my third year at Tarver-Rendon, and I look forward to serving our students, teachers, parents, and community.
I firmly believe the work we do here to prepare students to be productive citizens is valuable. This year, we will emphasize Social Emotional Learning (SEL). SEL enhances students' capacity to integrate skills, attitudes, and behaviors to deal effectively and ethically with daily tasks and challenges. There are five competencies to promote intrapersonal, interpersonal, and cognitive competence through SEL. The competencies are self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. You will see evidence of SEL inside and outside the classroom through class meetings, mood meters, specialized greetings, and much more. We are looking forward to supporting students' social and emotional well-being.
SOMETHING NEW: Radiant Roadrunner
We will recognize one boy and one girl in K-4th grade each month as the Radiant Roadrunner. Our radiant roadrunners will be selected by teachers at each grade level. These students are chosen based on the following criteria consistently:
*Demonstrates appropriate behavior choices
*Lends a helping hand to others
*Respects self and others
*Exhibits a positive attitude
Students who receive this recognition will receive the following:
*Radiant Roadrunner yard sign that they will keep
*Lunch with Mrs. Norwood, Mrs. McCarther, and one friend
*Picture displayed in the display case located in the cafeteria
September's Radiant Roadrunners will be announced Tuesday, October 1. Parents will be notified that their student was chosen and given an option to pick up a yard sign or request that it be sent home with their student. We are excited to recognize our students in this unique way!
Additionally, we will continue to highlight students' who model exemplary behavior daily with positive office referrals. Students receive positive office referrals when they go above and beyond to make a positive impact.
Coming Soon: Anti-Bullying Week
Our school will engage in activities throughout one week in October to support anti-bullying. We will sign a pledge, encourage fun dress-up days, share quotes, and encourage kindness during this week. More information is coming soon!
My door is always open, and I welcome any opportunity to meet with you to discuss concerns, answer questions, and share celebrations!
