A NOTE FROM OUR SCHOOL COUNSELOR...

Dear Parents and Guardians,
It has been such an amazing school year so far! I can’t believe how quickly this is year is flying by. February is here and testing season is right around the corner! Many students may experience test anxiety around this time of year. Anxiety can manifest itself in many ways including: upset stomach, headaches and other body aches, insomnia, shortness of breath, irritability, or restlessness.
However, certain amounts of test anxiety is normal and may help students prepare more effectively, work more efficiently, and remain focused during testing.
Here are some simple tips to help your child do his/ her best on test day and relieve some of those testing jitters!
· Prepare for test day the night before (So your child doesn't feel rushed in the morning: iron clothes, pack lunches, etc.)
· Unplug from all electronics an hour before bedtime, go to bed early and get a good night’s sleep!
· Eat a healthy breakfast (fruits & whole grains over sugary foods)
· Emphasize that the test is only one measure of academic performance and that test scores do not determine a person’s worth.
· ENCOURAGEMENT...kids love it & need it! Surprise your child with a special note or card from you encouraging them to do their best. Your enthusiasm and praise for doing his/her best can help reduce your child’s anxiety and boost their confidence!
Thank you again for allowing us the amazing privilege of teaching your children here at Tarver-Rendon Elementary! Here’s to a great rest of the school year!
Sincerely,
Brian Lane, M.Ed.
